Small Internet café now big desktop printing business

QUOTE(Sun.Star)
DAGUPAN CITY -- The Mouse House Internet Café, located at Burgos Street Extension, started with four computer units for rental and Internet service in 1997.

Ten years after, it is now the leader in desktop printing business not only in the city but also in Pangasinan. It also diversified into various products and services.

Ed Sevilleja, owner of the computer shop, said he never thought the business would grow big.

"We simply took the risk. And realizing we will go nowhere with just an Internet and gaming businesses, we branched out not by opening other branches but by introducing other products," he said.

"Since I am a graphic designer, we tried to diversify into desktop publishing and graphics design. We would like to believe that we are the leader in such kind of business in the sense that we take pride in our equipment. We invested in machines that were unheard of before in Dagupan and in the province like colored xerox/photocopy and laser printing. We were the first. It was a big gamble as we thought we had no market. We bought a very expensive machine without any study," he said.

The Mouse House Internet Café is celebrating its 10th year anniversary with a string of activities dubbed as "10 years, 10 products, 10 artists, 10 artworks in 10 days."

"The 10 products represent the different products and services we offer, 10 artists are exhibiting their respective artworks inside the café, and the anniversary activities will last for 10 days," explained Sevilleja.

The ongoing visual arts exhibit is a collaboration of the café's in-house artists, namely, Ellen Sevilleja, Marites Francisco, Myra Mamanta and Ariel Gacutan, and six artists from the Dagupan Artists' Circle (DAC) led by its president Patrick "Kinigtot" Bacolor.

The other DAC artists are Anthony Tańedo, Boni de Guzman, Jojit Solano, Patrick Hernandez and Edmund Calimlim

The exhibit was launched on February 8. A street painting will be held on February 13 and a poetry reading on February 15. There will also be a street art show and party, body painting, with live bands playing on February 17. (LCMY/Sunnex)
